The Corvair nameplate was fashioned from the combination of Chevy’s Bel Air and Corvette. Originally designed to compete with the German VW Bug, the Corvair found itself more in league with the German Porsche 911. The air-cooled, six cylinder aluminum engine had a top speed of 115 mph and could turn in a zero-to-sixty time of 10.8 seconds.
